My name is Tom Scheppke, but I’m better known to San Antonio rockers as the "T-Bone".
After growing up in Houston and later Dallas, I originally came to San Antonio in the summer of 1975 to attend Trinity University. I began my studies in the field of Radio & Television with the intention of getting on the new campus radio station, KRTU.
Two years later, my father got me a summer job at a new adult contemporary radio station in Cincinnati-WLWS. I wasn't on the air long, before the program director took me aside and said, "You need to work at a rock station!"
One year later I was back in San Antonio finishing up my degree and working part-time at album rock station KTFM. Luckily, when the station got a bad case of "Disco Fever", a fellow student told me that rock station KISS was looking for an evening jock. It was one month before graduation and I'd found my full-time dream job!
At KISS I started featuring some of my personal classic rock music collection. This would later become a popular weekly lunchtime request feature known as, "KISS Classics". Through the 1980's as music director, I became an integral part of the evolution of the sound of KISS.
In 1990, when the station flipped to oldies, I left San Antonio and worked in the record promotion business. A year and a half later when KISS returned to album rock, I arrived back just in time to be a part of the return of the legend. I stayed on at KISS until Christmas Eve 1996, when after 16 years; I felt it was time to move on.
After KISS, I worked at a local video-editing studio and started teaching some classes in the Radio, TV, and Music Business Departments at San Antonio College.
In the spring of 2000, I returned to radio at classic rock KZEP, where I held the title of music director and hosted during the midday, reprising my special request show now called "Prime Cuts".
I had 10 great years with KZEP. The high point came was when I was recognized at a concert named in my honor, "Bonestock", which celebrated my 25 years of rocking San Antonio.
I'm thrilled to be back in the business. I look forward to being a part of San Antonio's Most Commercial Free Classic Rock...X106.7!
